David Baran

Co-Founder/CEO

David Baran has over 33 years of experience investing in the Asian markets. Prior to founding Symphony, David held senior management positions at Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, and Barclays Capital in Tokyo. David graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters in International Finance from Columbia University. He has lived in Japan for over 30 years and is fluent in Japanese.

Kazuhiko Shibata

Co-Founder/CEO

Kazuhiko Shibata has over 35 years of professional investment experience. Prior to founding Symphony, Kazuhiko worked at Nomura Securities in both the US and Japan as a senior advisor for major corporate clients and principle transactions. Kazuhiko holds a B.A. in Law from Hitotsubashi University and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He is also a member of the New York Bar and is fluent in English.

Gregory McEntyre

Director, Trading

Gregory McEntyre is a Managing Director of the Investment Manager. He has over 25 years of experience in Asian equity and equity derivatives market, having spent 13 years with HSBC (Sydney, Tokyo and Hong Kong). He has been based in Singapore since 2002 and joined Symphony in 2005.

Brigitte Chan

Chief Operating Officer

Brigitte Chan is the COO of the Investment Manager. She joined Symphony in 2005 with over 22 years of experience. Prior to joining Symphony, she was a senior account manager at CITCO and a senior consultant for PwC. Brigitte holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Macquarie University and is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Hiroyuki Abe

Head of Business Development

Hiroyuki Abe joins Symphony as Head of Business Development and brings with him 17 years of experience and an extensive network in Japan's capital markets. Prior to joining Symphony, he was Vice President for the Prime Brokerage Sales for global institutional investors in Goldman Sachs Japan. Hiroyuki started his career in Global Equities Operations. He also held positions as Vice President and Executive Director of Global Securities Lending Trader in Goldman Sachs Tokyo and Hong Kong respectively. Hiroyuki graduated with a B.A in Business and Commerce from Keio University in Japan.

Shunichi Shiozawa

Investment Analyst

Shunichi Shiozawa is a director of the Investment Advisor. He joined Symphony in 2005 with over 16 years of experience. He was a former fixed income credit analyst, including special situations and principal investment transactions for Goldman Sachs Japan. Shunichi holds a B.A. in Asian Studies from University of Tokyo.

Kazunori Nakamura

Investment Analyst

Kazunori Nakamura joined Symphony in 2016, after holding a position in the investment banking division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Japan. He began his career and spent a number of years in the legal profession in Japan, including an early appointment as a court judge for the Saitama District of greater Tokyo. Kazunori holds an L.L.B. Law from University of Tokyo and L.L.M. Law from University College London.

Daron Guo

Trader

Daron Guo joined Symphony in 2015 and has more than 9 years of trading experience across various asset classes such as equities, fixed income, and foreign exchange. Previously, he was a multi-asset trader with RBC Private Bank and headed an equity sales and dealing team at Maybank Kim Eng. Daron holds a B.S. in Economics and Management from University of London, and a Diploma in Business Informatics from Nanyang Polytechnic.

Minoru Nakamura

Investment Analyst

Minoru Nakamura focuses on fundamental research. He began his career at IBM as a systems engineer and served in various senior executive roles there for more than 50 years, as well as a Director at IBM Japan Solutions. More recently, he was a consultant to PwC and executive advisor to Japan Telecommunications. Minoru graduated from the Metropolitan University of Tokyo, Faculty of Science.
